Aaron Fowler “Climb Onboard the Boat” – Tuesday, June 21st at 11 am
Musician Aaron Fowler and his trained therapy dogs, will be at the library on Tuesday, June 21st at 11 am with his “Climb Onboard the Boat” Summer Reading program.
There will be singing, moving, playing instruments, and sharing stories, including stories from the latest book in the Bella and Choco series, The Boat.

Teen & Adult Craft: Bubble Art – Tuesday, June 21st at 2 pm
Teens & adults are welcome to this craft where we will be making bubble art. Use oil pastels on black paper to make your bubble creation really pop!

Based on a true story, this live action family movie stars Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, and Morgan Freeman.
While swimming free in the ocean, a young dolphin gets caught in a trap and severely damages her tail. Though she is rescued, her tail cannot be saved, and the prognosis is dire. What the dolphin needs is a miracle. She gets that miracle in the form of a marine biologist , a prosthetics designer, and a devoted boy, who find a way to help her swim again.
Teen Water Fun – Friday, June 24th from 3 pm to 6 pm
We’ll have several water based games for teens on the library’s front lawn. Sign up is required and please wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet!
Game Day – Thursday, June 30th starting at 4 pm.
Join us for free play and tournaments. Come and go as you please. This event is open to all ages, bring a friend or family member to try out a new game!
Mad Science – Amazing Oceans – Friday, July 1st at 11 am
Mad Science presents Amazing Oceans! Join Mad Science this summer as they dive into the deep and amazing Ocean of Possibilities!
How do fish rise and sink in water? Why do some fish light up in the dark? What other mysteries lie within the murky deep? We even learn how to exercise environmental responsibility as we give back to the ocean that gives us so much. Join us this summer as we discover together this great Ocean of Possibilities!
Container Gardening Craft – Thursday, June 30th at 2 pm
Learn about container gardening while having fun planting seeds and decorating a flowerpot to take home! Supplies are limited, register to save your spot. Presented by the Wild West District of K-State Research and Extension.

Enjoy an interactive showing of the first swash-buckling tale of Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann.

Teen & Adult Craft: Sea Glass Windchimes – Tuesday, July 5th at 2 pm
Teens & adults are welcome to this craft where we will be making sea glass windchimes. Sea glass is a really pretty muted color. String them together and hang them up to make a unique wind chime for your home!

Movie Time – Thursday, July 7th at 4:30 pm
Come to the library and enjoy a movie and free popcorn! This will be part of our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program.
This Disney Pixar film is set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera. It is a coming-of-age story about a young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Tuesday, June 24th at 5:30 pm – EveningSpinning Yarns Do you love to crochet, knit, or do other needlework? Would you like to spend time with other adults who share your interest, give pointers, and socialize? Then come work on your current project at our Spinning Yarns group! This program is open to adults.
Friday, June 25th at 4 pm – Kahoot Animal Trivia Play Kahoot Animal trivia at the library! It doesn’t matter how knowledgeable you are, come in and join the fun! Sign up to reserve your spot. Saturday, June 26th – Cutest Pet Contest Submission Ends
Bring us the cutest picture of your fur babies, feather babies, or even scaly babies and let our patrons choose the cutest of the cute! The winning pets will receive a basket of goodies donated by the Kansas Avenue Vet Clinic and Shirley’s Critter Care.

Grand Prizes
For people who are using paper logs, be sure to turn in your completed logs or bingo sheets by Saturday, July 3rd to be entered into the grand prize drawings for fun prizes.
For people keeping track online using the Beanstack app, be sure to use the app to log your time spent reading, and finish earning your badges so you can apply your earned tickets toward the grand prizes before July 3rd.
Our Summer Reading Kickoff Party is just around the corner! Next Tuesday, May 25th, at 2 pm we will be kicking off Summer Reading in the parking lot with games, prizes, balloon animals, hot dogs, and popcorn.
Summer Reading Signup
Starting on the 25th, you’ll be able to sign up for Summer Reading online at https://lmlibrary.beanstack.org/ or if you prefer an offline option, you can pick up a paper registration form at the library.
Kids’ Summer Reading
Kids ages 0-5, read 20 books to complete the challenge and receive a prize.
Kids ages 6-12, read 15 hours to complete the main challenge and receive a prize, or go the extra mile and read 30 hours to receive an additional prize!
Earn badges by logging your minutes or books read and by completing activities online. The badges will change to color from black/white as you earn them.
Stop by the Children’s Desk to pick up the weekly Kids Craft Kit.
Teens’ Summer Reading
The teen program is for ages 13-17. Earn 8 badges of any kind to complete the program.
Earn badges by logging the minutes you read, writing reviews of books you read, and by participating in activities. Any kind of reading will count toward earning badges. The badges will change to color from black/white as you earn them.
For every badge you earn, you will earn tickets to put towards prizes. Prizes will be available half way through the program and until June 11th. Final prizes will be available for you to earn after that and until the end date of July 3rd.
Adults’ Summer Reading
The adult program is for ages 18 and up. Earn badges by logging the books you read, by completing activities online (the activities are like attending virtual library events), and by writing book reviews. The badges will change to color from black/white as you earn them.
Earn 5 badges to get the completion badge and be entered into a prize drawing. Go above and beyond by earning 24 badges to be entered into our grand prize drawing!
If you want to participate in Summer reading offline, come by the library to pick up a bingo card instead.
Closed Memorial Day
The Library will be closed on Monday, May 31st for Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday for our normal hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday at 2 pm Dan Dan the Magic Man – Dan’s magic show will guide you on a journey full of musical adventures! Silly songs, live animals, and tons of audience participation will have you Rockin’, Rollin’, and Reading!
New Library Mobile App
Check out the new free app for our library catalog! Now you can use your mobile device to view your library account, quickly see what’s new at the library (new books, new DVDs, etc.), put a hold on items you like, renew what you have checked out, and even pay library fines using PayPal. You can also create lists of items you would like to check out, books you would like to read.
Suppose you are at a store and see a book you’d like to read, but don’t want to buy it if the library already has a copy. You can use the Library Mobile catalog app to scan the book’s ISBN barcode (usually on the back of the book towards the bottom) and instantly see if the library owns it.
Look for Auto-Graphics Library Mobile in your app store to get started. Once you’ve installed the app, type in the zip code to find your library and login using your library card number and password. You have the option of setting the app to remember your library card number and password for you so you won’t have to enter it again.
Teen Area
We’ve added computers to the library’s teen area that are exclusively for the use of our teen patrons. The computers and the lovely new computer tables they sit on are a welcome addition to our vibrant teen area, which includes comfy furniture and a good selection of books and graphic novels that are sure to engage even reluctant readers.
“Libraries Rock!” this summer, and we have a lot of fun events for all ages going on at the library! Here’s what’s coming up in June:
It’s not too late for kids ages 0-11 years old to sign up for our Summer Reading Program! If they read (or are read to) at least 25 hours over the course of the summer (until July 28), they get a prize! Sign up at the library or on our website, lmlibrary.org
Kids 18 & under can get a free sack lunch every Monday – Friday, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at the library. No registration or identification is required.
Young Adults ages 12 & up, play Yu-Gi-Oh on Mondays at 6 pm!
Young Adults (ages 12-19) get a scratch ticket every time they check out a book or come to a Summer Reading Event (limit 2 tickets per day). Scratch for a chance to win a cool prize, including free food, a fidget cube, a Bluetooth speaker, and more!
We have three weekly storytimes with stories, songs, and a craft. Children ages birth – 3 years are invited to storytime on Tuesday at 11 am. Ages 4 -6 are invited to storytime on Thursday at 11 am. All ages are invited to storytime on Thursdays at 6 pm. And remember, every child gets a free book at storytime!

Kids ages 0-11 can sign up for Summer Reading Program now at the library or on our website.
No sign-up necessary for young adults (ages 12-19) to participate in our Summer Reading Program! When a young adult checks out a book or comes to a Summer Reading Event, they get a scratch off ticket! (Limit two tickets per person per day.) Most scratch tickets are prize winners. The ones that are not winners are entered to win the grand prize! We have a variety of prizes, including fidget cubes, small speakers, and earbuds.
Adults, complete the stops on our Summer Reading World Tour for prizes! Watch our website for fun summer activities! Watch movies, make crafts, and listen to music.
This Saturday at 1:30 pm, Poppa D. Clown will present a musical program for our Summer Reading Kickoff! Free popcorn and drinks will be served.
USD 480 is serving free lunches for kids ages 1-18 at the library starting on Monday, June 4. Lunches will be served Monday – Friday, 11:30 am

New Children’s Area Complete
The renovation of the children’s area of the library is finished and it looks great. There are beautiful trees and rolling grassy mounds along the walls. Sarah Foreman came up with the forest themed concept and Mindy Allen painted the artwork on the walls. Cowboy’s Custom Cabinetry made the big tree in the corner storytime area and the tree bookshelf near the entrance of the children’s area.
